Police to extract suspects mobile phone data

Met police in london have implemented a kiosk system to extract mobile phone data from suspects while they are held in custody.

It’s Believed the data includes call history, texts and contacts. Now here is the bit that I personally think is shocking the data will be retained regardless of whether any charges are brought.

The System is currently begin used in 16 london boroughs, and could potentially be used across the Uk. Privacy International are saying this could possible be a “breach of human rights law !”.

Isn’t this illegal ?

Yes it is illegal to indefinitely retain the DNA profiles of an individual or individuals after they are acquitted or released without charge, the communications, photos and location data contained in most consumers smartphones must at least be as valuable and as personal as you’re own DNA.
